Brusqueness
It seems unlikely that perceptions will change. Although officials are invariably courteous, an improvement on the brusqueness of the past, there is no sign of a diminution in the ceaseless adulation of Kim, in the exacting regimentation of daily life for the country's almost 20 million citizens, or in the aura of secrecy that cloaks even mundane things. Nor can a visitor leave without a sense that the mainspring of the society is a pervasive fear.
